Position Overview
Humberlife is a bi-weekly publication produced by the HSF that is distributed to all three Humber campuses during the school year. HSF is looking for an experienced student to join the Humberlife team as a Publications Writer. The Publications Writer is responsible for writing news and opinion stories for the paper and will work under direction of the Communications Director/Coordinator and the Humberlife Editors.

 

Responsibilities

  • Produce feature length stories, news briefs and photos relating to all HSF services and events, as well as various initiatives within the Humber community
  • Work closely with the Managing Editor to ensure the timely delivery and quality of articles
  • Arrange and conduct interviews to acquire the required information for article production
  • Conduct continual research of activities at Humber for potential stories

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Journalism or public relations experience an asset
  • Photography skills/experience an asset
  • Superior writing, editing, fact checking and interviewing skills
  • Ability to write on a variety of topics including sports, arts, and opinion pieces
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Writing samples required

  • Time management skills
  • Ability to work as a team as well as independently
