Position Overview
Humberlife is a bi-weekly publication produced by the HSF that is distributed to all three Humber campuses during the school year. HSF is looking for an experienced student to join the Humberlife team as Editor-in-Chief. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for overseeing the entire production and progress of the paper and will work under direction of the Communications Director and Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Be aware of all newsworthy stories/events happening on campus (North, Lakeshore and Orangeville)
- Work closely with the Layout Editor to organize layout and ensure content is balanced and appropriate
- Work closely with Managing Editor to ensure all elements of the newspaper are running smoothly
- Liaise between the Communications Director/Coordinator, HSF Executives, and the Humberlife staff
- Address issues that may arise with or between staff members
- Copy-edit all second draft stories and relay them to the Layout Editor
- Ensure standards are met for both CP style and the HSF
- Write editorials and columns to deadline
- Accountable for all publication content
- Awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of team members in order to utilize the team’s skill sets in the most advantageous manner
- Contribute fresh and innovative ideas to Humberlife through stories, layout, or general operations of the newspaper
Minimum Requirements
- Superior writing and editing skills
- Strong production and organizational skills
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Strong leadership and problem solving skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Familiarity with Quark and Photoshop an asset
- Available to work extended hours on bi-weekly production nights
- Writing samples required
